What are venture studios?
A venture studio is a business that builds startups right from inception. It is a co-founder of the startups that its involved in, contributing operational resources as much as finances or networks.
Everyone understands the advantage that serial founders have - the earned lessons that can only be gained from trying and failing and (sometimes) succeeding in entrepreneurship. Venture studios institutionalise this experiential learning, derisking and accelerating the entrepreneurial creation process.
What exactly do venture studios do?
Venture studios have one job - launch ventures. They do everything necessary before that point, from generating ideas, developing solutions, formulating business plans, and building teams (and more).
What does it mean for me?
"No market need" is one of the biggest reasons for startup failure1.
Venture studios have in-house methodologies to discover and validate venture concepts. These methodologies would leverage on the networks and resources that the studio has, allowing a more robust and effective process to find PMF than individual founders are typically able to achieve.
In many cases, a founder joining a venture studio will be working on a venture idea that’s already been conceptualised and ready for validation.
When joining a studio’s venture, a venture studio typically acts very similarly to a co-founder - taking an equity stake and providing very hands-on support to help the venture launch and scale.
